Why come along?

Let’s start with a bit of context. In Darwin Green, King’s Court, and Franklin Gardens, we’re lucky to have a strong community, with many individuals contributing their time and effort to make it a great place to live. Sometimes, it is good to have a more formal structure to back community efforts: a residents’ association can help when it comes to applying for grants, or carrying more weight in discussions with parties such as developers or local authorities. DGRA has existed for a while, but the existing Committee is standing down. Today, we’re putting together a new team to define the direction of the association for the years to come.

The AGM is the first step in this effort. For you, it can be a great opportunity to get to know the new team behind DGRA. As a resident, you will take part in the adoption of the new Constitution for the association. You will also vote to elect the Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and the other members of the Committee. You’re also welcome to nominate yourself, if you want to join the adventure! After the new association is formed, you’ll be able to weigh in on the priorities for the association, and to shape its direction.

On the Committee side, we currently have candidates for the Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer positions, with Konstantina S., Quentin M., and Graham S. respectively volunteering for these roles. We are looking for a Communications Officer (to handle social media) as well as regular Committee members who would like to get involved in the association. In particular, we’d love to have representatives from King’s Court and Franklin Gardens. If you consider nominating yourself for any position, please get in touch.

You can find the proposed Constitution for the association here: DGRA Constitution (provisional). Note that formal membership and voting will be reserved for the residents of the area covered by the association. Of course, residents from neighbouring areas are more than welcome to join and engage with the community.

In short: meet your neighbours and the DGRA team, and get involved to build a strong association that supports and represents residents. Bring a neighbour along!
